Data protection and GDPR
By registering for the C-card scheme you are signing up for a Virtual C-card which is saved and stored on your phone.
This Virtual C-card scheme is commissioned and managed by Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) Council. Condom pick-up points are located throughout B&NES by services and providers. B&NES Council is committed to using personal data lawfully and appropriately, to ensure your rights are upheld. We must always comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It sets out the rules we must follow about how to look after your data properly, what we are allowed to do with it, and for what purpose.
SAFE BANES only uses your personal data where we consider it necessary; to issue a C-card, aid our understanding of which demographics are using C-cards and improve the service we deliver.
Information we collect from you:
- Email address
- Postcode
- Date of Birth
- Gender, whether your gender is different from the gender you were assigned at birth
- Ethnic background
- Sexual orientation
- Where you head about the Virtual C-card
Once you have completed the online form, our system will check to see if that email address has applied before (by storing an encrypted 32 character string of random letters and numbers to check against). We are not storing any of your personal data.
Once you have signed up to the Virtual C-card scheme you will receive an email with your Virtual C-card attached. You will need to save this in your phone and show this to the professional at the pick-up point venue. You will then be given a pack of free condoms. After a year your Virtual C-card will expire and you will then need to re-register.
Confidentiality
When visiting our pick-up points to collect your condoms, any information you share remains confidential. This means we won’t tell anyone information you share unless you ask us too. However, if we were concerned that you or someone else was at risk of being harmed, we would need to share this information with other professionals to make sure you and others are safe. We would discuss this with you first.
